Optimisation Algorithm Developer

Job description

Join us, be part of more.

We’re so much more than an energy company.

We’re a family of brands revolutionising how we power the planet.

We're energisers.

One team of 21,000 colleagues that’s energising a greener, fairer future by creating an energy system that doesn’t rely on fossil fuels, whilst living our powerful commitment to igniting positive change in our communities.

Here, you can find more purpose, more passion and more potential.

That’s why working here is #MoreThanACareer.

We do energy differently – we do it all.

We make it, store it, move it, sell it and mend it.

About your team:

At Centrica Energy, our mission is to move it.

We’re energy movers by nature.

We’re a global renewable energy trading company which helps move energy from source to use – powering businesses, homes, and societies as they transition to a new sustainable energy future.

If the idea of working to create a sustainable energy future also moves you, we may very well be the right place for you.

The role

You join the Optimisation Algorithm Development team of Centrica Energy as a Quantitative Developer! Your team is focused on optimising performance and revenue of portfolios of flexible assets in a variety of energy markets.

Together with the team you deliver projects from inception (market analysis and strategy simulation) over implementation to production and operational follow-up.

As a Quantitative Developer, you'll focus on developing and implementing algorithmic trading strategies.

Your daily tasks include:

  • Applying and evaluating trading strategies (in Python) and benchmarking them against state of the art solutions.

  • Clearly communicating your findings and analysis to the team and contributing to collaborative strategy development and improvements.

  • Following-up how the trading strategies from our team are performing in the real world, and collaborate with traders to improve them.

  • About you

A one-sentence description of the person we are looking for:

You are a pragmatic, tech-savy quant that wants to build algorithmic trading strategies in the energy sector.

    Lets break that down:

    Quant
You can translate real-world problems in a mathematical optimisation formulation.
You feel at ease with concepts like distributions and probabilities.
You know how to quantify and back-test performance of algorithms.
You understand when and how to apply machine learning techniques for forecasting purposes.

    Tech-Savy
You have experience with writing production ready code in a professional setting.

You understand the relevance of version control and code review processes.
You have experience or are strongly interested in using AI Based Coding Tools.
You have experience with Numpy, Scipy, Python optimisation frameworks - or are motivated to learn these.

Develop software to solve complex challenges
You know how to translate problems from the real world into a software solution.
You know that writing software is not the goal, but just a tool for enabling a business-goal.
You feel at ease while talking to business experts to gain more knowledge about the context.

    In the energy sector
You care about the environment and the impact that we have on it.
You are motivated to enable a transition towards a higher share of renewables in the energy mix.
You are familiar with, or strongly interested in the mechanics of international energy markets.

    Pragmatic
You don't get lost in details and keep your focus on the end goal.
Even though you are familiar with state of the art algorithms, you also know when simple solutions are sufficient.

    Our offer

An opportunity to become part of a high potential and fast growing energy technology company in a top-tier team, where your creative input will have a real impact.

You will get to contribute to the development of sustainable grid balancing solutions, strongly impacting reduction of carbon footprint in Europe and North America.

Beyond this, the candidate will be offered an attractive and comprehensive remuneration package.

The team is based in Antwerp (Belgium), walking distance from the station.

You can be based out of Antwerp, Copenhagen or Aalborg but should expect to be onsite in Antwerp on a frequent basis.

We have a flexible home-working policy in place.
