Position Summary:
GS1 Healthcare is a global, voluntary user community bringing together all healthcare supply chain stakeholders, including manufacturers, distributors, healthcare providers, solution providers, regulatory bodies and industry associations. Our role is to facilitate a neutral and open environment to lead the successful development and implementation of global GS1 standards enhancing patient safety, operational and supply chain efficiencies.
As such, GS1 Healthcare envisions a future in which the healthcare sector achieves harmonised implementation of global standards in business and clinical processes enabling interoperability, optimal quality and efficiency of healthcare delivery to benefit patients.
The Digital Health and Public Policy Senior Manager/Director will have global responsibility for matters related to GS1 Healthcare’s interaction with the other international standard development organisations, as well as with healthcare regulators, authorities, and stakeholders, the GS1 Member Organisations (MO’s) and the global users in the Healthcare sector. Therefore, it is critical for the position that the candidate has significant and extensive work experience in the healthcare digital and public policy environment.
The position will have responsibility for the execution of activities on digital health and on public policy worldwide that advance the GS1 Healthcare strategy as it relates to the healthcare product identification, barcoding and data exchange requirements, enabling global interoperability and traceability. The strategy and direction of GS1 Healthcare’s work is determined by the GS1 Healthcare Leadership Team, a group of annually elected representatives of stakeholders from across the supply chain and GS1 MO’s.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with the other international standardisation bodies in healthcare, global healthcare industries and associations from across the world, but also with GS1 Member Organisations (MOs). The ability to build, maintain and drive trusted relationships with these stakeholders is very important as they are defining the basis of the global framework for interoperability of standards in healthcare as well as for identification and traceability of healthcare products. In this role he/she will ensure that the benefits of global standards and the need for globally harmonisation are well explained to and understood by key stakeholders across the world. The anticipation and monitoring of requirements by involving the global healthcare community is very valuable to the GS1 Global members and the drafting of discussions papers is needed to move implementation forward. As such, this role requires a passion for digital transformation and policy developments worldwide and a commitment to be a trusted and neutral partner to other standardisation bodies, authorities and stakeholders. This role will play an important part in enabling safer patient outcomes.
The role requires also involvement in the activities to enable education and clarifications on the implementation of GS1 standards with the support of colleagues from the GS1 Healthcare team and GS1 MOs. Knowledge and expertise in this area is a distinct advantage. Representation of GS1 Healthcare to internal and external events and meetings will be part of the work. He/she must have strong collaborative skills, willingness to proactively involve stakeholders from all countries and support multicultural working groups.
In this role, the main focus would be on the development of the role of GS1 in digital health, as a result of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, to enable deeper understanding of the benefits of global standards and better positioning of GS1 as a key partner in this environment.
Responsibilities:
(50% digital health and 50% public policy)
Prepare for the transition of GS1 chairmanship of the ISO TC 215 / Working Group 6 Lead the implementation of global digital interoperability based on GS1 standards by supporting the GS1 Member Organisations and the global GS1 Healthcare users as requested and appropriate. Drive the implementation of the GS1 Healthcare Strategy related to engagement with standard development organisation and digital health stakeholder, as well as with regulators, health authorities and inter-governmental organisations. Lead healthcare public policy related work topics and provide strategic input on how GS1 standards can support implementation of healthcare related requirements worldwide. Drive regulatory harmonised implementation based on GS1 standards by supporting the GS1 Public Policy senior manager in Healthcare and the GS1 Member Organisations in their work, and by advising global GS1 Healthcare users as requested and appropriate. Maintain and oversee the relationships with relevant associations such as International Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers & Associations (IFPMA), European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries (EFPIA), MedTech Europe, and establish new relationships where relevant. Represent GS1 Healthcare at relevant conferences, meetings, forums, mainly related to healthcare regulatory activities as requested by regulators, industry and MO’s. Drive the global healthcare digital health and public policy engagement through strategic approaches, but be capable to execute at the same time. Coach and mentor team members, foster career development. Collaborate with other business areas and functions of GS1. Have deep knowledge, subject matter expertise, and can bring and share best practices and ideas.
Education/Experience:
• Education and significant experience in the digitalisation of healthcare and public policy (min. 10 years) with the ability to engage with healthcare authorities and stakeholders and to communicate with them in the appropriate way.
• Industry experience in working in a healthcare supplier / wholesaler organisation using GS1 standards is an additional benefit.
• Work experience in a multi-cultural environment.
• Experience in roles where neutrality and influence is more important than control.
• Experience in global health and/or in digital health and related implementations is an advantage.
